DescriptionLittle Richard, Dinah Washington 1957 Apollo Theatre, Harlem, New York Handbill. An original paper concert flyer advertising, as usual, four weeks' worth of entertainment at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY, including two legends, Little Richard and Dinah Washington. The four weeks comprise the entire month of January 1957.
Little Richard gets a full page and is rightfully dubbed "The Original Tutti Frutti Man," as that was his first hit a year prior. Another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Dinah Washington, is called "The Queen" and of course her full nickname was "The Queen of the Jukeboxes." Bill Doggett also gets a full page and is christened "Mr. Honky Tonk" because that tune of his had been #1 R&B for 13 weeks the year before.
And the "Jocko page" has the most details because it was imminent, starting on January 4, and among others features the well-known talents of Clyde McPhatter, Clarence "Frogman" Henry, Mickey & Sylvia and Jesse Belvin.
Measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and grades to Very Good condition. Was once quarter-folded down to size. The vertical fold was actually appropriate, because the result was a little four-page booklet, but the horizontal crease was not, but it fortuitously doesn't intersect any words or faces. Creasing to the top two corners, and dirt and grime throughout. COA from Heritage Auctions.
