Description
PAGE, CLAPTON, WINWOOD, PLANT... WHAT A WEEKEND
Led Zeppelin, Blind Faith (Eric Clapton) 1969 Midwestern Rock
Festival Concert Poster. A jam-packed poster advertisement for
the Mid-West Rock Festival, a three-day July 25-27, 1969 event near
Milwaukee. Its first day was headlined by the red-hot Led Zeppelin
and the second day was headlined by the supergroup Blind Faith.
Other acts on the first day were Kenny Rogers & the First Edition,
Buffy Sainte-Marie, Shag and Sweetwater. The second day had John
Mayall, Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, the MC5 and Taste. The
third day starred Jeff Beck, Jethro Tull, Bob Seger, Joe Cocker and
Johnny Winter.Led Zeppelin capped off a show that started late in the afternoon. With only one album out, the band started off with "Train Kept A-Rollin'" (as usual) and ended with a 20-minute version of "How Many More Times" plus the ripper "Communication Breakdown."
Zep had been offered a chance to play at the Woodstock Festival a few weeks after this, but they turned down the opportunity. (Imagine what they would have been like in that iconic moment in pop culture.) Blind Faith, on the other hand, was about to burn out. For various reasons, the band imploded in the following weeks. Bandmates Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton opted to throw in the towel after one self-titled album. Opened up, the poster measures to an overall 11 ½" x 35 ¼". In Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: The paper is in quite good shape, given how long ago the festival was. Has toning and staining on one side, with various spots of creasing and smudges.
