Description

Led Zeppelin 1971 Honolulu, Hawaii Promo-Blimp Concert Poster. An original and unusual concert-advertising poster for Led Zeppelin's appearance at the Civic Auditorium in Honolulu, Hawaii on Thursday night, September 16, 1971. This one's a dandy: A lot of people guess the man is Zep manager Peter Grant, but no, he was KPOI disc jockey Mike Hamlin, nicknamed "the Mighty Leader."

And check out what he's riding on... that's an Atlantic Records promotional blow-up blimp that was sent out to stores and radio stations. The designer of this poster sure put it to good use. You've also gotta love the cheekiness of how they used a dozen drawn-out words just to say "September 16, 1971." Probably just sarcasm, but you never know, he could've been a born-again. A very scarce poster from everyone's favorite place, the Hawaiian Islands. Printed on thick blue paper, this first-time Heritage offering measures 21 7/8" x 13 5/8" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster was once quarter-folded but it looks clean, neat, perfectly spaced and probably was done by machine to mail the poster out. The vertical crease has become a bit white-ish with the passing of time. The paper is thick enough that there's only one small seam split at the four ends of the folds... a ½" split at the far left just above the cloud. There's a little surface crumpling on the far right in the clouds, and a few tiny water spots down below that (near the bottom edge). The verso has small pencil writing in one corner, which actually identifies the KPOI DJ who's pictured.
