DescriptionKitty Wells "Queen of Country Music" 1958 Dickson, TN Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising country stars Kitty Wells and Johnny & Jack playing at the Dickson Theatre in Dickson, Tennessee on Wednesday night, November 12, 1958. This red, white & blue concert poster was made by the Hatch Show Print company out of Nashville, TN.
Ms. Wells is nicknamed "The Queen of Country Music" and with good reason. She charted over 80 singles in Billboard between 1952 and 1979, and this year alone, 1958, Kitty had five Top 20 C&W hits. And opening act Johnnie & Jack were no slouches, either; they had previously been regulars on the Louisiana Hayride and were presently members of the Grand Ole Opry.
Measures a shade under 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. Poster was once quarter-folded down to fit into Hatch Show Print's filing cabinets. No color is broken on the horizontal creasing – thru Kitty Wells' name – but it is broken throughout the long horizontal crease. It's most notable in two big "N's" at the top and in Miss Wells' hair and face. The two creases intersect on Kitty's chin. Very lightly bumped corners and the expected light toning from the passage of six decades. The integrity and charisma of the poster is still fully intact, and a touch-up artist could probably fill in the missing red & blue to dial the color breaking way back.
On the verso, the creases were reinforced with wide, clear cello tape, also a long time ago. The board still flexes a tiny bit but is now protected from any further damage along the creases. Also, "58" is written in pen in one of the corners, and likewise "1958" in black pen in another, both presumably by Hatch. COA from Heritage Auctions.
