Description

Johnny Cash, June Carter, Carl Perkins 1968 Charleston, WV Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising "The Fabulous Johnny Cash Show" appearing at the Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia on Friday night, November 15, 1968. Great yellow & black design on this one with The Man in Black standing full-length, strumming his guitar and looking right at us. Johnny had reason to feel confident: He was right in the middle of a three-straight #1 hit streak: "Folsom Prison Blues" this summer, then this concert, then "Daddy Sang Bass" in December and "A Boy Named Sue" directly following that. All numero unos. Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: All the usual suspects accompanied Johnny: his backing group the Tennessee Three, the Statler Bros., his new bride June Carter, rockabilly legend Carl Perkins, and Americana legends Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family.

Condition details: Some light foxing present on the poster, on the left side from top to bottom and moving over into the "Civic Center" and "Tickets on Sale" sections. A small chip out of the poster's edge down by Johnny's feet. Surface mark by the star in upper venue box. A small bit of surface white pulled away on the margin next to "Friday." A little bit of light surface scuffing on the deep black areas such as Johnny's clothing. Verso has a very small tape lift down in the lower-right quadrant.
