John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Muddy Waters 1965 Concert Program. An original program for the Pittsburgh Jazz Festival taking place on June 18-20, 1965 at the city's Civic Arena. The 12-page program (including covers), which sold at the show for $1.00, has lots of musicians but three of them are stunning, world-changing musical geniuses: saxophonist John Coltrane, trumpeter Miles Davis and blues musician Muddy Waters.Wait - how could we forget Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Thelonious Monk and Earl "Fatha" Hines? Then there's Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck and Woody Herman. Or how about Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, the MJQ and Carmen McRae. This thing is so top-heavy with talent it's crazy. Definitely one of those weekends where you'd give anything to go back in time and be there. It's almost like a Woodstock of jazz, with the world's greatest living bluesman thrown in for good measure.
Measures 8 1/2" x 11" and grades to Good condition. Most of the program is fine, with standard handling, light creasing and a small mark or tiny tear here & there. But the last page, consisting of page 11 and the back cover, is tattered. Page 11 has light cello tape all around its edge, and the back cover has "Tape Down" written in large letters in blue ink pen, two corners torn away and an additional 1 ¾" tear.
