Jimmy Witherspoon American Legion Hall Concert Poster (1956). Extremely Rare. Window card printed on yellow card stock for a show in Paris, KY. on Fri. Oct. 5th announcing "Jimmy Witherspoon and his Rock & Roll Band". The poster shows a head and shoulders portrait of the great shouting blues singer and lists two of his singles "Failing By Degrees" and "Sad Life". Printed by "Southern Poster Printing Co., Atlanta, GA.

This is the only known copy if this poster.

This poster is dated at a point when Rock n' Roll was starting to eclipse Witherspoon's style of blues and his chart success was on the wane. This may explain why the promoter chose to refer to his band as a "Rock & Roll Band" in order to attract a bigger audience. Though the mid-1950s were lean for Witherspoon, by the early 1960s there was renewed interest in his music and his career continued well into the 1980s.
