Description
BEGUILING SMALL-TOWN COLLEGE CAMPUS POSTER
Jimi Hendrix Experience 1968 UCSB Santa Barbara, CA Silkscreened
Concert Poster. An original silk-screened concert poster,
likely made by college students, for the Jimi Hendrix Experience,
the East-Side Kids and England's Soft Machine performing at the
University of California at Santa Barbara, about 100 miles north of
Los Angeles, on Sunday night, February 11, 1968.This is the first time this small-town psychedelic gem has ever been offered for public sale, and it's hard to imagine that they made very many. The artist was very creative in duplicating the highly stylized type font from Hendrix's first album, and even put "Are You Experienced?" across the top, which is the cherry on the cake.
Notice the colorful psychedelic backdrop behind the yellow lettering, too. Somebody put a lot of time and thought into creating this, and now we're loving it half-a-century later. This first-ever Heritage offering measures 14" x 21 7/8" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: This black poster board is basically very clean. In the bottom portion there is a 6" vertical crease that goes through the "O" in "Soft" and breaks a little black color above that. The trouble is, with rudimentary silkscreened posters like this, it's hard or impossible to tell what flaws were from the original production and what came later as damage. That's a big part of silk screening's appeal... that it's less slick & professional than the more "corporate" tour posters. But we just know this poster was well taken-care of and is in basic lovely condition.
