AS DISPLAYED AT NY's METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART

Jimi Hendrix 1970 Seattle, WA Concert Poster Previously Hung in the New York Met Museum. A vintage 55-year-old Jimi Hendrix concert poster from his hometown of Seattle, Washington selling tickets for his last-ever appearance in the contiguous 48 United States before tragically passing away less than two months later. The show took place at the famous Sicks' Stadium on Sunday, July 26, 1970. The opening bands were Cactus and Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys, whose debut album Hendrix had produced.

This exact poster has the proud provenance of having been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Play it Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll exhibit in 2019. Concert poster super-collector David Swartz loaned it to the Met, one of the most prestigious museums in the world. It was displayed alongside key concert posters from Elvis Presley, the Beatles and many others, plus copious musical instruments from the biggest bands. Attendees to the grand opening included Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.

The yellow & black window card's central image is an interesting amalgam of two photos of the guitar god live on stage. Speaking of pictures, this event produced one very memorable photographic moment: a very rare picture was snapped, backstage, of Jimi, his father Al and his half-sister Janie, just a young girl at the time but who later went on to oversee all aspects of her late brother's recorded legacy.

This first-ever Heritage offering measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Hendrix and the band he was calling Cry of Love took the stage in the rain at 7:15 PM. "We've got Billy Cox on bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums and yours truly on public saxophone," Hendrix announces after the first song. And then, not surprising for his hometown, Jimi told the audience, "You know I just seen my parents coming, which is really outta site."

Condition details: This poster is in the exact same condition as it was hanging in the Met. There is a hole-punch at the top center; right above the hole there's a tiny tape lift, and below the hole there's a small crease that breaks the black color. The board's lower left corner has a 2 ½" diagonal corner crease, which lightly breaks the black color in two places. There is slight scuffing in the black down from the word "Tickets." The ink smudge you see on the "10" and up into "U" is a printer's flaw, not damage. The poster's verso has a name written in black pen at the top. General toning throughout.
