Description

Jerry Lee Lewis 1957 Kentucky Drive-In Theatre Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising a new rock 'n' roll hero, "Sun Recording Artist" Jerry Lee Lewis, playing two evening shows at a drive-in theatre in Murray, KY on Thursday night, August 15, 1957. This blue & yellow concert poster was made by the Hatch Show Print company out of Nashville, TN. Any vintage concert poster by "The Killer" that lists "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" (notice the typo) is a special poster indeed, and that single was in Billboard's national Top 20 this very week. Within a couple of months Jerry Lee would record its follow-up, "Great Balls of Fire," and claim his crown as one of the founding fathers of rock 'n' roll. This first-time Heritage offering measures a shade under 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster was once quarter-folded down to fit into Hatch Show Print's filing cabinets. Some color was broken along the two folds, but has been expertly repaired by Chameleon Restoration. Also has very lightly bumped corners and the expected light toning from the passage of six decades. On the verso, the creases have not been reinforced and the horizontal fold, in particular, has broken the cardboard all the way across and weakened the board's structural integrity a bit. So it flexes easily but lies flat nicely and this problem would vanish if it were framed. One could apply their own strong tape over these creases and considerably strengthen this window card. Also, "57" is written in pen in one of the corners, and likewise "1957" in red grease pen in another, both presumably by Hatch.
