Janis Joplin/Big Brother 1967 S.F. Hells Angels Dance Poster Graded 9.8 (AOR-2.248). An original first-printing concert poster for Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, plus Blue Cheer, playing a Hells Angels dance at California Hall in San Francisco, CA on Friday night, February 3, 1967. The poster has been graded to a stellar 9.8 Near Mint/Mint condition by the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), a grade you just don't see much on Hells Angels/BBHC posters.

The Angels' biker club and the San Francisco hippie scene with its peace-and-love music was always an uneasy alliance, but there was a special bond between the Angels and Big Brother. What ended badly at Altamont in 1969 was in full bloom in 1966-67, as evidenced by the incongruity found on this poster: "The Hells Angels Present in Supersonic Psychedelic Sound and Color, Big Brother and the Holding Co." Measures 14 1/4" x 20" and grades to 9.8 Near Mint/Mint condition. Originally from the KC Murphy Bindweed Press Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: A really fun advertising piece of red, black & white featuring almost-psychedelic lettering and a free spirt perched on the back of a biker, obviously taken in the streets of San Francisco. Remarkably it states, "1.00 Per Head... No Minors." We love the way the Psychedelic Shop is prominently mentioned under "Tickets." The poster artist was Gut (Allen Turk), also an Angel himself.
