Description

Janis Joplin 1969 San Bernardino, CA Small Concert Poster. An original concert poster for Janis Joplin appearing at the well-traveled Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, CA on Friday night, March 28, 1969. This black, blue & white poster features very intricate artwork in three of the corner areas, and a lovely photo of Miss Joplin sitting on a stool, holding out her hand and wearing a beaming smile. "Another M&A Production," the poster states, for the show that took place about one hour east of Los Angeles. (The Rolling Stones played their first American date ever at the Swing Auditorium in 1964.) Measures 10" x 13 1/2" and grades to repaired Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: This was from fairly early in Janis' solo career, which spanned early 1969 until her premature passing in the fall of 1970. Her band, which had no name yet but would eventually be called The Kozmic Blues Band, included ex-Big Brother San Andrew on guitar, keyboardist Stephen Ryder, saxophonist Snooky Flowers and future Full-Tilt Boogie Band bassist Brad Campbell, among others. They would commence recording Janis' debut solo album in three months' time. The success of BBHC's 1968 masterpiece Cheap Thrills still loomed large, however; that LP remained in Billboard's top 40-selling albums this very week.

Condition details: Poster has been expertly repaired, to the point where you can see little on the front. Three or four tears to the paper were previously present, but have been professionally mended and blended in nicely. There is one circular mark or stain right under Janis' sleeve hanging down from her extended arm.
