James Brown Classic 1968 Boxing-Style Globe Concert Poster.
Standard-sized cardboard window card. Billed as a "Show for the Entire Family," the concert featured James Brown and his 18-piece band & revue at the Rhode Island Auditorium in Providence, RI on Friday, Oct. 4, 1968. Ticket prices were $4.00, $5.00 and $6.50, and children under 12 were just 99 cents.

This was the "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud" James Brown, as that was his new hit single at the time of this show and which topped the R&B charts for six weeks. That was also his last Top 10 pop hit for nearly two decades, truly marking the end of an era (but the beginning of another one). This was a torrid time for the Godfather of Soul, as he enjoyed eight Top 20 R&B hits in 1968 alone. Eight! He also had a #1 in 1967 and two chart-toppers in '69, so there's no question he was absolutely on fire at this time.

Great, classic purple & black design with James looking fit & safe "for the entire family" in his bow tie. Wonderful lettering used for his name, too. Measures 14"x 22.5" and made by the legendary Globe Poster in Baltimore, MD, which gets a credit down in the bottom right. In unused, Near Mint Minus condition with a bit of tiny creasing in the upper left corner and the slightest bit of toning all the way around, very common for a 50-year-old poster even when in storage. COA from Heritage Auctions.
