Jackson Five / Michael Jackson 1974 Washington, D.C. Large Globe Concert Poster. An oversized cardboard advertising window card for The Jackson Five appearing at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, May 12, 1974. Supporting the J5 were two other hitmaking stars, Eddie Kendricks and the Ohio Players.

The J5, featuring 15-year-old Michael Jackson, had a #2 pop hit that spring with "Dancing Machine," plugged on the poster. Also listed is "Get It Together," a #2 R&B hit for them the previous year. Kendricks, as an original member of the Temptations, had sang lead on "The Way You Do the Things You Do," "Get Ready" and "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)." Eddie even gets a little bonus drawing to represent his current hit "Son of Sagittarius." And the Ohio Players had achieved only one Top 10 R&B hit when this poster was printed, but were warming up dramatically and would break through to superstardom the following year. More Information: The board uses Globe's trademark orange Day-Glo coloring along with yellow, white and black to create a visual extravaganza. It shows a prominent photo of RFK Stadium at the top, motion outlines of five figures to represent the J5, and two sketches to represent Kendricks.

This poster is about as busy as you can get, with tons of information communicated using almost 250 words. A couple of things are highly unusual: In the upper left white box, a make-up rain date is given – the following day. You hardly ever see rainout dates mentioned on a poster. And check out that anti-scalping line at the very bottom: "Beware of the man in the street. The tickets he tries to sell you will not be real." (We also like the Day-Glo orange "Happy Mother's Day" getting the last word.)

Condition details: Beautiful eye appeal, with past condition issues which have been repaired. Poster was once folded in half vertically, but has been flattened out for decades so it's barely noticeable visually, although the top-to-bottom fold crease remains there structurally. Thankfully, it broke no color.

The poster also once suffered a pair of V-shaped "punch-through tears" which have been expertly mended. Signs of the restoration are visible on the back, but barely on the front, and usually just when the poster is held at an angle to the light. When doing that, you can see the top tear once went through "Festival," "TA" in "Stadium" and into the stadium photograph. The bottom one was all in the Eddie Kendricks yellow box. Both have been expertly repaired to the point of very low visibility, especially when viewed straight-on.

There's only one pinhole that we could find, in the upper left corner, and all four corners are soft and nudged. And there's also the usual light general toning throughout.
