Description

Humble Pie, Yes 1971 New Orleans Concert Poster. A window card from the original run of Humble Pie with progressive rock giants Yes as the opener. Humble Pie is best known for having Steve Marriott from the Small Faces and Peter Frampton in its original incarnation. Yes had released two albums that year (The Yes Album and Fragile), both which would later be known as classics and highly influential in the prog-rock world. The interesting thing about this poster is how the groups were scheduled "appearing at a warehouse" in New Orleans. Well, that's the way the venue owners wanted its name to appear, as opposed to a more formal The Warehouse.

This venue actually had a lot of fame and notoriety because exactly one year before, on December 12, 1970, Jim Morrison and the Doors played their last concert together ever at the Warehouse. Morrison famously smashed his heavy mic stand down into the wooden floor and splintered a small area of it. The club owners decided to not repair it for years, so tonight Humble Pie and Yes carefully played around it.

One delightful aspect of this poster is its provenance... it was obtained directly from a college student at the time who attended the show. We've never seen another copy of this poster, so a first-time HA offering, needless to say. Measures 11" x 17" and grades to Very Good condition with creasing marks throughout, along with staple holes, toning, a ¼" tear in the upper center portion, as well as tape adhesive on the verso. COA from Heritage Auctions.
