Hot Lips Page 1936 Old Orchard Beach, Maine Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising "America's Ace Colored Trumpet Star," Hot Lips Page, performing at the Ocean Pier in Old Orchard Beach, Maine on Friday night, August 28, 1936. Page has quite a pedigree, having worked in both Artie Shaw's and Count Basie's orchestras, worked alongside vocalists Ma Rainey, Wynonie Harris and Bessie Smith, and was one of the small handful of musicians who opened New York's famed Birdland with Charlie Parker in 1949. A terrific-looking window card with action everywhere you look, and four colors with white, orange, red and black. Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The most obvious surface dirt and grime removed by Chameleon Restoration, with a bit remaining. A little repair work done above "Pier" in the upper right. A scuff through "Page" has been expertly all but eliminated. Some surface damage occurred in the "et" of "Trumpet," which remains. Corners rounded and the lower left one was reinforced a little on the verso, but no material was ever missing from this board, anywhere. Upper right corner has a series of vertical, four-inch "wrinkle creases" which intersect the stem of "R" but otherwise all in the white. Just the right amount of toning and aging still present. The ink smearing on the trumpet photo and "And His Orchestra," and on the cloud's edge above the "T" in "Hot," are original printer's flaws and not considered damage.
