Description

Grateful Dead, The Doors 1967 Santa Barbara, CA Concert Poster Graded 9.8 (AOR-3.46). An original first-printing concert poster for the Grateful Dead, the Doors, UFO and Captain Speed performing "in a Dance-Concert" at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara, CA (100 miles north of Los Angeles) on Saturday night, April 29, 1967. Features wild artwork of a deep-sea diver surrounded by plenty of rolling psychedelic lettering, including the clever wordplay "At 8:00 The Doors Will Open." Poster artist John Cushing told Heritage this is the only concert poster he ever designed for local promoter Jim Salzer.

This marks the first time we've ever sold this poster, and we're starting at the top; no higher grade of this poster exists. Measures 17" x 22 5/8" and was graded a knockout 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.268 (illus.).

More Information: Reprints of this Jim Salzer Presents poster carry a very noticeable printer's flaw in the lower left corner area; the scarce first printings don't have that.
