Description

Grateful Dead, Quicksilver 1966 Sacramento, CA Concert Poster Graded 3.5 (AOR-3.14). An original first-printing psychedelic and highly creative concert poster advertising the Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service playing at Governor's Hall in California's state capitol on Wednesday night, December 28, 1966. Dubbed "Beaux Art's Ball," the poster promised "costumes, lights, films, sound and prizes." Three nights later, the Dead would play their first-ever New Year's Eve show for Bill Graham back in San Francisco.

The colorful and complex artwork for this poster centers around both sides of a naked male figure full of intricate design elements and words printed in red. Included are fish, dragons, birds and apparent Asian influences. On the figure's back lower calf, the small credit "Ogden 66" is given as the artwork's creator.

Tickets were available at the Sacramento-born, new & upcoming Tower Records, and the equally hip Belmonte Gallery, the beatnik hangout that many considered Sacramento's epicenter of cutting-edge music and trends in the mid-60's.

Measuring 15 3/8" x 22 1/4", this poster has been graded 3.5 Very Good Minus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.
