Description

Grateful Dead "Hawaiian Axomoxoa" Concert Poster (1969). OK, poster freaks. The Big Boy has finally arrived! This is an original first printing copy of perhaps the most famous, most beautiful -- and most notorious -- Grateful Dead poster, and one of the hardest 1960s Rock Posters to track down. The concert, featuring supporting act It's a Beautiful Day, was canceled after the poster was designed and printed. Artist Rick Griffin had given this one his all; being a former surf rat, the concept of the Dead in Hawaii obviously appealed greatly to him, as evidenced by the surfing Ying-Yang figures in the lower part of the design, and plenty of Griffin's signature trademarks (like a Tiki god and a winged skull with hearts). When the show was canceled suddenly, the printed posters were trashed, save for a handful that Griffin was able to nab and take back to California with him. That's all that there are, folks, and this is one of them. It measures approximately 16.5" x 27.75", and is in Very Good Plus condition with minor edge wear. This is the first one of these we've seen in all our years of offering concert posters, and it may never come around again, so if this one's been on your want list, come prepared to be a player and bid, bid, bid!
