FROM THE SAME MONTH "WORKINGMAN'S DEAD" WAS RECORDED

Grateful Dead 1970 Ft. Worth, TX Day-Glo Concert Poster Graded 9.6 (AOR-4.161). One of the best psychedelic concert posters to ever come out of Texas, this amazing first-printing gem advertised the Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service appearing at Panther Hall in Fort Worth, TX on Friday night, February 20, 1970, the very month the group recorded their classic album Workingman's Dead. This specimen has been graded a positively glowing 9.6 Near Mint Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).

The bright Day-Glo colors on this silkscreened poster are off the charts, and the design is pure fun. All the concert details are contained on three graves and tombstones at the bottom of the poster. Measures 22 1/4" x 28", just about the maximum size that CGC presently grades. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock - Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.383 (illus.).

More Information: This silkscreened beauty has to be one of the greatest non-San Francisco posters of the Dead's entire career. The only hints we have as to the poster's designer are the initials "WSH" and then elsewhere, "A Fun Kit Poster."

You just know the Dead were at their performing peak, because they were coming off six shows at the Fillmore East that are often considered the greatest shows of their entire career.
