THE DEAD IN THE GLORIOUS ENVIRONS OF LAKE TAHOE

Grateful Dead 1968 Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe Concert Poster Graded 9.8 (AOR-3.29). An original blue & orange concert poster from the north shore of Lake Tahoe - Kings Beach specifically - for the Grateful Dead and Morning Glory playing on Thursday-Saturday nights, February 22-24, 1968. Features a very cool graphic by artist Bob Fried of a skeleton skiing downhill adorned with a scarf and earmuffs. This specimen has been graded an ice-melting 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).

The last time Heritage sold a graded copy of this poster, which was one year ago and also 9.8, it realized a breathtaking $25,000. So this is one heckuva popular poster.

The Dead were 200 miles from home, there's always lots of snow in February, and as the poster says, we're sure "Trip and Ski" were two things on their agenda. At an elevation of 6,250 feet in a town of just a few thousand, all bets were off and a high time was likely had by all. Deadheads know that selections from these gigs were released on Dick's Picks Vol. 22 in 2001. Measures 14 1/4" x 22". COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p. 263 (illus.).
