Description
Grateful Dead 1968 Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe Concert Poster (AOR-3.29). An original blue & orange concert poster from the north shore of Lake Tahoe - Kings Beach specifically - for the Grateful Dead and Morning Glory playing on Thursday-Saturday nights, February 22-24, 1968. Features a very cool graphic by artist Bob Fried of a skeleton skiing downhill adorned with a scarf and earmuffs. The Dead were 200 miles from home, there's always lots of snow in February, and as the poster says, we're sure "Trip and Ski" were two things on their agenda. At an elevation of 6,250 feet in a town of just a few thousand, all bets were off and a high time was likely had by all. Deadheads know that selections from these gigs were released on Dick's Picks Vol. 22 in 2001.
Measures 14 1/4" x 22" and grades only to Good condition. Yes it has a couple of standard, minor handling creases, not even a factor. The main issue here is that the verso has three lines of pen writing obliterated by a black marker. Due to the orange background turning light as it goes down the poster, the black marker on the verso can be seen in the light orange of the lower right corner (and up into the banner and the words "Lake Tahoe"). Some will see it as subtle and not really a problem, while others will find it unacceptable. It really doesn't look too bad in the scheme of things, especially if framed where the loud black marker on the back would never have to be seen again.
But this condition should allow someone to pick up this fun Dead poster at a bargain price compared to what it normally sells for; in our very last auction, in May, Heritage sold one of these in 9.8 grade for an astounding $25,000. COA from Heritage Auctions.
