THREE YEARS BEFORE HIS FIRST HIT

Glen Campbell 1965 Concert Poster Plugging "Shindig" and "Hullabaloo" Appearances. A wonderfully early Glen Campbell concert-advertising window card from Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday, October 16, 1965. Strong yellow and bright orange coloring accentuate this unusual concert poster, the only one we've ever seen before.

Although Glen had not broken through to the mainstream yet with his 1967 hit singles "Gentle on My Mind" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," at this point he still had a remarkable list of credits to his name. From 1960-onwards Campbell was a member of the Los Angeles set of studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew, and had played anonymously on hundreds of records by the likes of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Ricky Nelson, Dean Martin, Jan & Dean, the Everly Bros., Bobby Darin and countless others.

Then, from late 1964 to the spring of 1965, Glen had filled in for Brian Wilson as a touring member of The Beach Boys, playing Brian's bass guitar parts and singing high falsetto harmonies.

This window card plugs "Universal Soldier" as a "hit recording," but it only reached #45 on Billboard's national singles chart. Still, it was a beginning, and before long Campbell would become a beloved figure in the entertainment business for the rest of his career.

Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Near Mint Minus for a heavily creased upper right corner but which shows no weakness or color breakage. COA from Heritage Auctions.
