Description

Gene Chandler, Spinners, Staple Singers 1962 Jumbo Chicago Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising both hit acts and up-and-comers in concert for eight holiday shows at the end of 1962 at the famed Regal Theatre in Chicago, IL. Gene Chandler was the man of the hour coming off his #1 hit "Duke of Earl" earlier in the year, which topped both the Pop and R&B charts.

The next three acts, The Five Stairsteps, The Artistics and The Staple Singers, would all have Top 10 R&B chart success going forward, but none of them had seen any chart action yet. The Spinners, on the other hand, had reached #5 R&B this summer with "That's What Girls Are Made For"; they would go on to the biggest career of anyone on the poster, hitting it huge in the 1970's. Measures 22 ¼" x 28 ¼" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Without a day of the week given we could not pinpoint the year of this poster with complete certainty, but after much study, all signs point to 1962.

This remains the only specimen of this poster that Heritage has ever seen. This exact poster was sold by us back in July 2021, and that buyer has decided to consign much of his collection to Heritage here in spring 2024.

Condition details: Has creasing in various spots, bumped corners and toning along the top portion.
