Description

FD-D18 The Doors 1967 Denver "Pay Attention" Rick Griffin Concert Poster Graded 9.4. A first-printing concert poster for The Doors, Allmen Joy and Gingerbred Blu playing at the Family Dog's Denver location on Friday thru Sunday nights, December 29-31, 1967. This poster is known as FD-D18 in the Family Dog numbered series and actually has two nicknames: "Pay Attention" (after what the alien's holding) and "Space Man" (yes, after the alien himself). This specimen measures 12 ¾" x 21 ½" and has been graded 9.4 Near Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). From the Houston Freeburg Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: This is the first printing of this very popular poster, identifiable by the Family Dog triangle in the upper left corner having a red background. Second printings have a black background up in that triangle.

Anything for the Doors in 1967 is pretty great, of course, and their LP Strange Days was sitting at #9 on Billboard's album chart this week. Their latest single, "Love Me Two Times," had also come out earlier in December.

Sometimes people think that the second-billed Allmen Joy were Gregg and Duane Allman opening for the Doors, but that's not the case. The two bands coexisted at the same time, but Gregg and Duane spelled their group with an "a," as in, "Allman Joy." The Allmen Joy was an entirely different outfit.
