Description
FD-8 Blues Project, Quicksilver Messenger Service 1966 "Laugh Cure" Concert Poster Graded 9.8. A first-printing San Francisco concert poster for The Blues Project, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Sons of Adam at the Avalon Ballroom on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, 1966. This poster is an early creation of the dean of San Francisco psychedelic concert-poster artists, Wes Wilson. Known as FD-8 in the Family Dog numbered series, this poster was graded 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).Famed keyboardist Al Kooper was the most prominent member of The Blues Project, and had played a key organ part on Bob Dylan's hit "Like a Rolling Stone" the previous summer. The band had one live album out and was preparing material for their first studio LP in the fall. Kooper would split soon thereafter to form Blood, Sweat & Tears.
Measures 14" x 20" and grades to Near Mint/Mint 9.8 condition, a rare and stellar grade to be found on any of the earliest Family Dog posters. From the KC Murphy Bindweed Press Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: The Sons of Adam hailed from Baltimore but had moved to L.A. Alas, success eluded them and they ended up giving their guitarist to Blue Cheer and drummer to Love. Quicksilver needs no introduction on a San Francisco concert poster, although we get a kick out of the "From Mill Valley" explanation above their name.
