Description

FD-11 Big Brother & Holding Co. 1966 "Stone Facade" Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster Graded 8.5. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for The Grass Roots, Big Brother & The Holding Company (without Janis Joplin yet) and the Buddha from Muir Beach playing at the Avalon Ballroom on Friday and Saturday nights, June 3 & 4, 1966. Known as FD-11 in the Family Dog numbered series, this poster carries the nickname "Stone Façade." Notice the FD logo was colored in, back in the day; this was commonplace with the early Family Dog B&W posters such as Euphoria, The Quick & the Dead and A Tribal Stomp. Measures 13 1/2" x 20" and was graded to an 8.5 Very Fine Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: It's interesting to note that the exact photo which artist Victor Moscoso based this poster around, of a gargoyle from Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, is easily found on the internet.

This was the exact month that the Grass Roots' first semi-hit single, "Where Were You When I Needed You," entered Billboard magazine's Hot 100 singles chart. But they wouldn't achieve a real hit for about another year.
