Description

Ernest Tubb 1956 Madison, WV Drive-In Theatre Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising country-music great Ernest Tubb and His Texas Troubadours performing at a drive-in theatre in West Virginia on Tuesday, July 31, 1956. The singer/songwriter, radio broadcaster and movie actor had amassed a head-spinning 54 Top 10 country-western hits in Billboard by this point. Naturally he was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and would easily make it into the Country Music Hall of Fame later.

Measures a shade under 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. Poster was once quarter-folded down to fit into Hatch Show Print's filing cabinets. A bit of color is broken in the board's bottom half... in Tubb's necktie, in the "T" of "Ernest" and the first "O" of "Troubadours." The two creases intersect on Tubb's face, but it's not too bad at all, as it misses his mouth. Very lightly bumped corners and the expected light toning from the passage of six decades.

On the verso, the creases have not been reinforced and the horizontal fold, in particular, has broken the cardboard all the way across and weakened the board's structural integrity. So it flexes easily but lies flat nicely and this problem would vanish if it were framed. One could apply their own strong tape over these creases and considerably strengthen this window card. Also, "56" is written in pen in one of the corners, presumably by Hatch. From the Jim Cook Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
