Description
Elvis Presley Pop Tunes Record Shop Poster Group (1980s-90s) Poplar Tunes (also known as Pop Tunes) was a record store located at 308 Poplar in Memphis. A teenaged Elvis lived close by, and he spent a lot of time at Poplar, checking out all the latest releases of the day. When Elvis' first single on Sun was released, Pop Tunes was the first store to carry copies, and as the years went by, the King was known to drop by to check on how well his own records were selling. Pop Tunes was a cherished Memphis landmark for many years, finally closing its doors for good on September 10, 2009. Here's a 66.25" x 47.5" plastic-coated cloth banner that hung in the store, featuring a great picture of Elvis with his leather-covered guitar, plus a 23" x 18" paper poster, featuring a photo of Elvis with Dewey Phillips (the Memphis radio DJ who first played "That's All Right" on the air) and Joe Cuoghi, the founder of the store. Also included is an unstamped Poplar Tunes envelope, created to go with the 1993 Elvis stamp. The banner has some wear and stains from being displayed, and is in about Very Good rolled condition; the paper poster is in Fine condition with a few small creases, and the envelope is in Very Fine condition.Auction Info
