Description

Elvis Presley 1970 Detroit, MI Large Concert Poster. An original large-format paper concert poster advertising Elvis Presley appearing at the Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Michigan on Friday night, September 11, 1970.

Elvis was touring under a couple of brand new circumstances with this date. It was his second show produced by the new Management III group, consisting of Jerry Weintraub, Tom Hulett and Terry Bassett. As a result, Elvis was enjoying a new state-of-art sound system with onstage monitors that "allow Elvis to really hear himself for the first time," according to the Elvis: Day by Day book. "Until this [moment], Elvis has always relied on the PA system provided by the room or auditorium... and it's an ear-opening experience." Measures 22" x 37 1/4" and grades to repaired Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: As usual, Colonel Tom Parker's company name is found in the small print... "All Star Shows." Curiously, the poster encourages you to buy Elvis' records and tapes, but doesn't mention RCA.

Condition details: The poster has very light, professional touch-up applied in a couple of corner and edge spots. The poster was once rolled and then subjected to pressure, creating about 10 horizontal creases evenly spaced all the way down, but more visible on verso than front. (Nothing breaks color.) The venue box has a poster-wide diagonal crease that goes through "Elvis" but again, is much more visible on the verso. The venue box has a heavy dose of toning from exposure to light over the years. On the bottom edge under "Tickets At," what appears to be a tear is actually a little clump of foreign matter stuck to the paper.
