Elvis Presley 1968 Comeback Special Large Cardboard Advertising Poster. An original full-color advertising sign made in 1968 to promote Elvis Presley's forthcoming TV special airing on the NBC television network on Tuesday evening, December 3 of that year. In color, naturally, although that wasn't taken for granted back then.

This is a large, compelling piece the size of a typical jumbo concert poster. It's got everything you could want in a piece like this, including the really unusual feature of naming five Elvis songs that were to be performed. Usually it's only concert posters that give song titles... and even then they aren't guaranteed. But here, the editing had been done so it was time to bait fans with some classics they'd hear for sure.

And of course, nowhere on the piece does it use the word "Comeback," by which the event has come to be known, because that term was only introduced as an after-the-fact assessment. This rare and first-ever Heritage offering measures 21 7/8" x 27 7/8" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: This thick board display had once been folded in half across the middle, perhaps even for mailing to retail outlets. It has been repaired and strengthened in that area by Chameleon Restoration. It still flexes a little bit in that area, so one needs to handle with care. There's also been touch-up to the green area up top, and a crooked three-inch tear under "In His" that's been totally repaired.
