Ella Fitzgerald/Chick Webb Grotto Park Concert Poster (1938). Extremely Rare. Window card printed on card stock for a show in Elmira, New York on Wednesday Dec. 28. The poster features a wonderful vintage illustration showing a stylized portrait of Webb's head, a drum and a "chick" singing, perched upon the letter "C" in "Chick". The poster announces "Gale, Inc. / R.K.O. Bld'g, / Radio City, / presents / Chick / Webb / and his N.B.C. Orchestra / featuring Ella Fitzgerald". Measures 14" x 22". In Good to Very Good condition, with a repair to a tear to the second "o" in "Grotto", 0.3" tear ro upper left corner, 1" tear to right edge, loss to upper right corner, nicks and wear to other corners, staining to light areas of the poster.

This poster from 1938 coincides with a turning point in twenty-one year old Ella Fitzgerald's career, and, could essentially be called her "Rookie Card". Two years after joining his band, Fitzgerald and Chick Webb recorded the song "A Tisket, A Tasket" together. It was the biggest hit of the 1930s, staying at number one in the charts for ten weeks, selling one million copies.
