Ella Fitzgerald 1960 European Tour Blank Concert Poster by Gunther Kieser. An original large paper 'tour blank' concert poster from headliner Ella Fitzgerald's spring 1960 Jazz at The Philharmonic European tour. Joining the First Lady of Song on this jaunt were Shelly Manne & His Men, the Jimmy Giuffre Trio, the Paul Smith Quartet and trumpeter Roy Eldridge. Notice the blank red box in the lower right where date-by-date concert information would later be printed in. This poster measures 33 1/4" x 23 1/4" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Besides playing their own spot, the Paul Smith Quartet accompanied Ella in her singing.

This poster is a Gunther Kieser creation, along with his partner Hans Michel. It's a dramatic red & black presentation of Ella's face, already telegraphing the wild, cutting-edge designs Kieser would come up with later in the 60's.

Condition details: For preservation, this poster was backed with brown paper a long time ago, so it's now easily handled with no damage occurring, and carries the same visual wallop as it did when super-thin. On the left edge, there's a quarter-inch tear to the left of "Fitz." There was previously a one-inch tear on the top center edge, in the red to the left of "Norman," but the paper backing now holds it in place. A few light surface creases here & there, and the possibility of a little surface touch-up, but otherwise a captivating piece that has strong bones and would frame up beautifully.
