Description
Duane Eddy 1959 Boxing-Style Concert Poster "Forty Miles of Bad Road."A classic guitar-instrumental window card advertising the King of the Twangy Guitar himself, Duane Eddy and the Rebels. The Tilghman Press produced this four-color cardboard poster (red, white, yellow & black) that features Eddy picking at his axe and surrounded by six of his song titles, plus the basic description, "Twangy Guitar." 1959 was the year Eddy charted seven records on Billboard's singles chart, including "Forty Miles of Bad Road" which was in the Top 10 this very week - Sunday, August 9, 1959. The show took place at the famous Evergreen Ballroom in Olympia, Washington.
The concert was opened by the Teen Kings of Portland, OR; no relation to Roy Orbison. And TV star / singer Lavern Myllicent rounded out the bill with her "Swing, Blues and Bop."
A nice oversized Tilghman poster at 17 x 24", giving it a commanding presence compared to your standard boxer. Graded Very Good with a couple of issues in the venue box: an oil stain in the upper left corner (the board's all there, it's just dark) and a sticker-strip that was attached and then partially torn off that said, "Sunday afternoon 2 to 4." Otherwise the poster has general wear & tear, some staple & tack holes, a little tape residue on the lower corners, and some general light toning & dirt. As you can see, however, its overall integrity is fully intact.
It's quite a rare and desirable poster, and Heritage has had only one specimen before, from another city, which went for $17,500 in April 2018. COA from Heritage Auctions.
