Description

Cream, Joe Walsh 1968 Grande Ballroom, Detroit "Paisley" Concert Postcard Graded 9.2. An original first-printing Detroit, Michigan concert postcard for Cream w/Eric Clapton, the James Gang with Joe Walsh, the MC5 and four others performing over the weekend of June 7-9, 1968 at the famed Grande Ballroom. This postcard carries the nickname "Paisley" among collectors to easily distinguish it from Cream's other Grande Ballroom poster. This very cool psych design was done by Gary Grimshaw for a show promoted by Russ Gibb.

Cream were at the absolute peak of their powers at this point in time. "Sunshine of Your Love," the biggest hit of their career, had just ended its half-year run on Billboard's singles chart. Still touring off their landmark 1967 album Disraeli Gears, the band finished the last of their studio recordings for, and oversaw the mixing of, their next long player, Wheels of Fire, this very month (June 1968). Not burnt out yet, you just couldn't catch them at a better time.

Other acts appearing over the three days advertised were Carousel, Nickel Plate Express, St. Louis Union and Thyme.

This postcard is known as G/G-680607-OPC-A in the Eric King guide. It measures approximately 4 ¼" x 7 1/8" and was graded to 9.2 Very Fine by CGC (Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.
