    More Information:

Arguably the most political figure associated with 1967's "Summer of Love," Country Joe McDonald led Country Joe and the Fish, a Psych/Folk Rock act that was an influential part of the late-1960s San Francisco music scene. Formed in 1965, Country Joe and the Fish began as a Folk duo heavily influenced by the work of Woody Guthrie. Soon, they were a full-fledged electric Rock act. McDonald used his music as a something of a political platform, protesting the establishment and the Vietnam War. In 1967, the band released their second studio album, I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die. The LP's title track is to- this-day considered the ultimate Vietnam War protest song, and was written by McDonald in twenty minutes for an anti-war theatrical play. Aside from being an instant classic of a protest song, coupled with "The 'Fish' Cheer," it is essentially Woodstock's defining moment. Country Joe's post-Fish career has been incredibly prolific, with nearly three-dozen albums released since 1969. Acerbic and original where many acts of the day were glorified pop groups, Country Joe McDonald is a countercultural icon. Heritage Auctions is proud to present a selection of memorabilia from his personal collection, never offered before at auction anywhere.
