Clyde McPhatter / Erskine Hawkins 1959 "Rock 'N Roll Jamboree" Jumbo Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising a "Rock 'N Roll Jamboree of 1959" at the famed Regal Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. The seven-night stand, starting Friday night, May 29, 1959, was headlined by ex-Drifter lead vocalist Clyde McPhatter, who had reeled off eight straight Top 10 R&B hits in the late 50's, including his latest, "A Lover's Question" (which went to #1).

Big-band leader and trumpeter extraordinaire Erskine Hawkins provided the musical bed, and Hawk had had his own dozen Top 10 R&B hits in the 1940's. Also on the bill was Jerry Butler, who had worked with Curtis Mayfield in The Impressions for a year or two before going solo in '58, and went on to shine brightly in the 60's and 70's.

The Crests were basking in the glow of their huge hit "16 Candles," having just fallen off the charts. Similarly, Little Anthony & the Imperials had just enjoyed the biggest hit of their career as well, "Tears on My Pillow." To round things out, Brooklyn-based The Impalas had just released their Top 20 R&B hit, "Sorry," their only charter ever.

Measures 22 1/8" x 28" and grades to Near Mint condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: A beautiful board, with points taken off only for very slight, superficial surface creases in the "A" of "Regal," in the "47" of the address, and under the "R" in "Rooney" which extends down to the "S" in "Last," but barely touches it. The corners have very very slight touching remnants. Slight surface grime, or possibly printer's smudge, on the yellow around "Rooney." Completely unused and stored beautifully; barely any toning.
