Description
Buddy Holly & Crickets, Little Richard 1957 Alan Freed N.Y. Concert Program (AOR-1.15). An original, 20-page Alan Freed 1957 "Third Anniversary Show" program that demonstrates just how powerful Freed was in the early days of rock 'n' roll, getting the program's front cover and first inside page all to himself and his family. This program was used for Freed's extravaganza at New York City's Paramount Theater on August 30 through September 8, 1957.It's interesting to note how Buddy Holly's name had not broken away from the Crickets yet, so everything refers to them as just The Crickets. There's even one publicity photo inside that shows them as four exact equals, all wearing white shirts. On the other hand, their full-page bio and photograph does show Buddy standing out from the other Crickets in his white suit vs. their black suits.
Other musical stars in the program include Little Richard, Larry Williams, Mickey & Sylvia, The Moonglows, The Five Keys, The Del Vikings, The Diamonds, Jo-Ann Campbell, Jimmie Rogers, Shaye Cogan, The Cleftones, Ocie Smith and Alan Freed and his Rock 'n' Roll Orchestra featuring Sam "The Man" Taylor, Al Sears and legendary saxophonist King Curtis.
Measures 9" x 12" and grades to Very Good condition. As is common with old programs like this, the outside covers have the wear & tear while the inside pages are all pretty perfect. The glossy front & back covers here have surface creases, some soiling, a little bit of pock-marking and "#7" written in pen at the bottom of the cover photo. All the B&W matte-finish pages inside are fine and clean, however, and the two staples are a little rusty but holding firm. COA from Heritage Auctions.
