Description

Bob Marley & the Wailers 1979 Apollo Theatre, New York Jumbo Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising reggae legend Bob Marley & the Wailers playing at the esteemed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City for a long weekend from Thursday-Sunday, October 25-28, 1979. Marley's Survival album had just been released on October 2, thus its nice plug right under the artist's name.

The combination of Marley and the Apollo has to be one of the most powerful artist-venue match-ups in vintage concert-poster history, and this first-time Heritage offering is the scarce advertising piece which got people into the seats. Measures 23" x 28 1/2" and grades to restored Very Good Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster has printer's hash marks on three of the four sides, which probably denotes where the printer was going to cut it down to a smaller size.

Condition details: Poster has been heavily restored around all four white margins, although it's hard to tell what the original damage was. It looks like the poster's top white area may have once been folded down, and bottom white area folded up, perhaps to fit into a frame. Interestingly all the surface resto at the poster's bottom goes right up & around the ticket information, but doesn't go into the print. What still remains is significant surface creasing throughout, and a three-inch scratch/gouge going from Marley's chin down into his jacket. There is also light surface scuffing and grime here & there.
