    Description

Bo Diddley, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Isley Bros., Bill Doggett 1960 Chicago Concert Poster. An original jumbo cardboard window card from the renowned Regal Theatre in Chicago, IL touting a week's worth of shows from a stellar line-up of African-American talent to kick in the new, important decade.

Bill Doggett isn't a household name, but rather a reliable R&B journeyman who had three Top 30 R&B hits in '59. Then you get to the household names. Next up is Bo Diddley, who topped Doggett with four Top 30 R&B hits in '59. R&B legend Bobby "Blue" Bland has an awkward spelling here, but do we detect a pattern? Yep, three Top 30 R&B hits in '59, we kid you not.

Blues singer and harmonica player Little Jr. Parker's resume was amazing, after stints in the 50's with Howlin' Wolf and Johnny Ace. The Isley Brothers are a real sleeper here; they simply hadn't charted any records yet, but you know the rest. (The 60's would take them from "Twist & Shout" to "It's Your Thing.") And finally, we can't forget Peaches down there... Etta James had been a wallflower earlier in her career, but she'd finally blow up this year with three straight Top 10 R&B hits and move way up on concert posters.

Measures 22 1/8" x 28" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster's in beautiful unused shape, but does have a crease over "Top Screen" at the very bottom, and right above that, in the first "S" in "Saunders." There's also a vertical scuff at the very top between the "G" and "A" of "Regal." Surface dirt is found on the white surrounding "The Isley Brothers," actually going from about "Jr." to "Screen," which may simply be printer's grit. Upper left corner bumped and dog-eared in very small fashion; upper right bumped; lower left has an extremely mild two-inch crease; and lower right is barely touched. Verso has a little bit of black ink from the printer, and some brown toning around all four edges which interestingly barely shows on the front. Very happy to call this Near Mint Minus.
