Description
BG-92 Pink Floyd, Procol Harum 1967 Fillmore / Winterland Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for Pink Floyd, Procol Harum and H.P. Lovecraft playing at both the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland on Thursday thru Saturday nights, November 9-11, 1967. Known as BG-92 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was graded a beautiful 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC). Pink Floyd definitely played all three of these shows, after failing to meet their full commitment to Bill Graham the previous two weekends. Poster measures 14" x 21". From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.More Information: Pink Floyd appeared on three straight Bill Graham posters in the fall of '67 - BG-90, 91 and 92 - but due to Visa and other problems, many cancellations occurred. So they didn't play at all on BG-90, played only one night on BG-91, and played all three scheduled nights here on BG-92.
From a singles standpoint, at this juncture the Floyd had already enjoyed a pair of Top 20 hits back in their homeland: "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play." But they would not chart a single in America until "Money" was pulled off The Dark Side of the Moon six years hence.
Meanwhile, Procol Harum was touring off their debut album and that summer's memorable hit "A Whiter Shade of Pale." The band had just recently added guitarist extraordinaire Robin Trower to their line-up.
Third-billed H.P. Lovecraft was a Chicago psych-rock band formed in 1967, deriving their moniker from the famed horror writer of the same name. And their music, indeed, had somewhat of a haunting, macabre aura to it. The group soon relocated to San Francisco to be where the action was. They were led by ex-folk singer George Edwards and classically trained Dave Michaels. In '67 H.P. signed to Philips Records – home of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons – but when their two eponymously named albums failed to gain any traction, they disbanded in 1969.
