OUR FIRST GRADED SPECIMEN OF THIS CLASSIC EVER OFFERED

BG-8 Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa, Andy Warhol 1966 Fillmore Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for the Velvet Underground and Nico, Andy Warhol, and Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Friday thru Sunday nights, May 27-29, 1966. Known as BG-8 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster has been graded a masterpiece-level 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).

This is a special poster on a number of levels, and is steadfastly coveted by the poster-collecting community. We have designer Wes Wilson to thank for that. The Halloween-like colors are especially captivating, with Andy Warhol's name standing out strongly in white. Just to have "Pop" on the poster twice so speaks to mid-60's innocence just before heavier acid-rock kicked in.

These shows were undoubtedly the zaniest to ever occupy a Fillmore weekend, with Warhol and his Exploding Plastic Inevitable (Wilson left "Exploding" off the poster) being the east coast's answer to the Bay Area's acid tests. Throw in Frank Zappa as the opening act, and there may not have been a sane person in the building. Measures 14" x 20". From the Ben Bierman Carmel Street Collection. LOP from Ben Bierman, COA from Heritage Auctions.
