REMAINS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR EARLY BG POSTERS

BG-8 Velvet Underground, Andy Warhol, Frank Zappa 1966 Fillmore Auditorium Concert Poster. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for the Velvet Underground and Nico, Andy Warhol, and Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Friday through Sunday nights, May 27-29, 1966. Known as BG-8 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was designed by Wes Wilson, the dean of San Francisco psychedelic poster artists, having designed 45 of the first 50 Bill Graham concert posters and the first 10 Family Dog posters as well.

These shows were undoubtedly the zaniest to ever occupy a Fillmore weekend, with Warhol and his Exploding Plastic Inevitable (Wes left "Exploding" off the poster) being the east coast's answer to the Bay Area's acid tests. Throw in Frank Zappa as the opening act, and there may not have been a sane person in the building. This totally unrestored poster measures 14" x 20" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The poster's only real issue is a 1 ¼" diagonal crease in the upper left corner, a typical light corner crease that goes nowhere near the artwork. The upper edge of that crease has a tiny discoloration mark, and we're talking tiny. Likewise with a microscopic nick on the poster's left edge just over and down a little from the "B" in "Bill." We believe there's no paper missing, it's just a tiny push-in, and we were able to disappear it by flattening it with pressure from our fingers. It returned, but we believe any amateur could probably pressure it back into total normalcy.

In the upper right corner there's an incredibly mild, barely-there 1" diagonal crease, also nowhere near the artwork; we didn't spot it until we examined the verso. That corner tip also has a super-mild touch to it. Otherwise this poster is very very clean.
