Description

BG-6 The Charlatans, New Generation 1966 Wes Wilson Fillmore Auditorium Poster Graded 9.6. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for the New Generation, the Jaywalkers and the Charlatans playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Friday and Saturday nights, May 13 & 14, 1966. History tells us the Charlatans were the most important band here, among the most familiar of all San Francisco folk-psychedelic groups, and whom can actually lay claim to being the first. They were the stars of "The Seed," the first psychedelic concert poster from June 1965 at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, Nevada (also offered in today's auction). Their distinctive 1800's old-west clothing set them apart, but also bonded them with the hippie sensibility of the day. The Charlatans had a legendary influence on the S.F. counter-culture scene of the late 60's, but could never break through and disbanded in late '69.

Designed by Wes Wilson in his earliest style, the poster is identified as BG-6 in the Bill Graham numbered series. It measures 14" x 20" and has been graded a very strong 9.6 Near Mint Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.
