Description

BG-26 Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane 1966 Fillmore Concert Poster Graded 8.5. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and six other acts playing at the Fillmore Auditorium over the long Labor Day weekend of September 2-5, 1966. This poster is very difficult to find in gradable condition due to its extra thin and fragile paper, so relatively few have ever been graded (just like its predecessor, BG-25). Designed by Wes Wilson and known as BG-26 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was graded to 8.5 Very Fine Plus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). Measures 13 1/4" x 21". From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Graham really got his money's worth by paying Wilson to design just one poster advertising three completely different sets of musicians. On Friday & Saturday you had the Airplane, the P.H. Phactor Jug Band and the group called Andrew Staples. On Sunday evening the all-star show consisted of the Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Country Joe & the Fish. And on Monday, it was soul-music time (albeit with lots of crossover appeal) from Motown's Martha & the Vandellas plus Bay Area mainstays Johnny Talbot and De Thangs.
