Description

BG-201 The Rolling Stones 1969 Oakland, CA Third-Printing Concert Poster. A third-printing San Francisco Bay-Area concert poster (done well after the shows) for the Rolling Stones playing two concerts at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday, November 9, 1969. Known as BG-201 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was designed by Randy Tuten (using a photograph by Ron Raffaelli).

Almost everything about this poster is iconic. With the Beatles done touring, this was the Stones staking their claim as the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band; and some cite this as rock music's first real big-money sophisticated tour. The Stones' previous single had been the #1 "Honky Tonk Women" and their next single would be the #1 "Brown Sugar." And later this very month, the band's Let It Bleed album would be issued, featuring "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Fair condition. The poster's front surface is fine, with only very light handling apparent. But on the verso, masking tape was applied around all four edges. Perhaps this was part of a framing technique, but the tape is intrusive now when looking at the front. Heritage made no attempt to remove the tape, so a little TLC might go a long way in bringing this poster back to its original state. "Fair" is our very tough grade, but we just couldn't see calling it "Good" when it has all this tape that still needs to be addressed. The winning bidder will take advantage of that!
