Description

BG-173 Santana 1969 Fillmore West Concert Poster Signed by Lee Conklin, Graded 9.8. First-and-only-printing San Francisco concert poster for Santana, during the very month the band recorded their breakthrough debut album Santana featuring "Soul Sacrifice." (It would be released that summer, a week after Woodstock.) Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods were co-headlining, and the Allmen Joy rounded out the bill. They were all performing at the Fillmore West on Thursday through Sunday nights, May 15-18, 1969.

Designed by Lee Conklin and known as BG-173 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was also signed by Mr. Conklin down in the lower right corner area of the artwork rectangle. And let's not forget that Santana used Conklin's classic artwork from BG-134 ("lion's head") for their debut album cover; perhaps they were in the talking stages about that right now.

CGC's yellow grading strip at the top signifies this poster is part of the company's Signature Series, meaning Conklin's signature was executed right in front of one of CGC's representatives, and is even dated as such... in this case, four years ago.

This horizontal poster measures 21 1/8" x 14 1/8" and was graded a roaring 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.
