Description

Beatles - John Lennon's Imagine LP (Apple SW 3379, 1980 Re-Release): Two Full Album Cover Press Proofs and the Printing Positive for the "Ram Parody" Postcard. After the assassination of John Lennon on November 8, 1980, the demand for his back catalog of records skyrocketed. To help meet that demand, Bert-Co Graphics produced a new press run of the popular Imagine album cover. Offered here are: (1) Two full press proofs on cardboard stock, each approximately 26" x 14". They are both initialed and dated at the bottom margin "12-12-80", one for "Q.C", the other for "Color". Excellent overall, cut roughly at top. (2) A 10" x 11.5" B&W printing positive for the postcard-size photo included in the original Imagine release that pictures John holding a large pig by the ears. This was done as a parody of Paul McCartney's Ram album cover where Paul is holding a ram by the horns. Lennon perceived that certain songs on the Ram LP were venomously directed at him (e.g. "Too Many People," "3 Legs," "Dear Boy"). In response, Imagine included songs likely in response, such as "How Do You Sleep" and "Crippled Inside." Very fine with minor surface soiling. These were rescued from destruction by the son of the founder of Bert-Co, the company who printed the first (and many to follow) US Beatle album covers.
