DescriptionThe Beatles: John Lennon Original Dezo Hoffman Photograph, 1965. This glossy 10" x 8" black and white photograph shows Lennon from the chest up, sitting behind a table with a microphone in front of him. He is looking off slightly to his right, the tips of the fingers on his right hand resting on the table. The fingers of Ringo's left hand can be seen in the lower left corner. With a Dezo Hoffman Ltd stamp and a pencil notation reading "Beatles" on the verso. The lower right corner of the photo is creased slightly and there is a small nick in the image over Lennon's right breast.
Earlier in the day (October 26, 1965), the group received their MBE, Member of the Most Honorable Order of the British Empire, at an award ceremony at Buckingham Palace. During a royal ceremony, each man was presented a medal by Queen Elizabeth II. They then retired to the Saville Theater for a press conference, where this photo was taken. Lennon returned his MBE in protest in 1969.
