The Beatles Ed Sullivan Show Vintage Press Photos and Contact Sheets. Among the 70 b&w 8" x 10" contact sheets (featuring hundreds images from the Beatles' historic February 9, 1964 live performance on The Ed Sullivan Show ) is a set of fascinating images which originally stumped our much-lauded Beatles expert. The images in question feature the lads rehearsing for the show, but a mysterious young musician took George's place, with Harrison's guitar in his hands and the familiar moptop uptop! The interloper, turns out, was the Beatles' then-assistant (and future head of Apple Corps), Neil Aspinall, covering for an under-the-weather George. These rare images are only the tip of the iceberg in this prolific lot, also containing two b&w 8" x 10" CBS promo photos. Other images on the contact sheets include additional shots of the Beatles, Sullivan, the Dave Clark Five, The Supremes, other guests, and the screaming girls in the audience, taken before, during, and after the show. Roughly 74 million viewers -- about half of the American population -- watched the group perform on the show that day. The next morning, many newspapers described the Fab Four as a "fad" that "could not carry a tune across the Atlantic", but it would be the lads from Liverpool who had the last laugh. A great set of images, in overall Very Fine condition.
